The Secret Service has recently deemed the sidewalk along the south fence of the White House permanently inaccessible to the public. Secret Service Communications Director Cathy Milhoan says that this is in attempts to prohibit individuals from illegally accessing the White House.
The most recent incident which occurred on March 10 involved a man who had scaled the fence and was able to walk around freely on the White House property for 16 minutes without being detected. (but that sounds like a personal problem and major flaw for the Secret Service if you ask me!) Making this even more of debacle is the fact that President Trump was inside at the time. Secret Service, you have dropped the ball! How can you punish the public for that?
There have been other incidents like this one in US White House history but never have such drastic measures been taken. They say that this won't effect the view tourists will have of the property but firmly remind you to stay off the sidewalk! (source: reuters)
