It brings us great sadness to report the tragic death of 40-year-old retired pitcher Roy Halladay. On Tuesday Halladay was involved in a fatal plane crash in Florida, just off of New Port Richey and north of Tampa Bay.
The plane, a brand new Icon A5 (which Halladay had just recently purchased), was found upside down in a shallow body of water. No distress calls had come from the plane. However, a 911 call was placed a little after noon reporting a plane down.
In Roy Halladay's 16 seasons with the MLB, 12 were spent as a part of the Toronto Blue Jays organization where he won his first Cy Young Award in 2003. Just in time for the 2010 season Halladay joined the Phillies and later won yet another Cy Young Award. Roy Halladay was a remarkable person and player. He will be missed.
